The Ladenburg Research Networks are a major funding program of the Foundation. This format offers scientists the opportunity to work on topics within an interdisciplinary research network over an extended period. For this purpose, the Foundation publishes calls for applications at irregular intervals.
The Foundation normally funds these research networks for a period of three years. Under the leadership of a scientific coordinator who acts a spokesperson, a research topic is investigated by several working groups at various scientific institutions in Germany and abroad. The members of a research network are granted a high degree of freedom, determine their research programs independently, and have the opportunity to meet regularly in Ladenburg on invitation by the Foundation.
The Foundation primarily finances positions for doctoral candidates and covers travel expenses; material funds can only be approved to a very limited extent. Funding for basic equipment and overheads cannot be applied for.
