The 2024 Bertha Benz Prize is being awarded to Dr.-Ing. Lena Marie Saure from Kiel University. She is receiving this prize for her dissertation, in which she investigates aeromaterials made from glass or graphene that could be used in future for energy conversion in industry. These complex structures constitute a network of hollow tubes; this allows light or electricity to be converted into thermal energy in an efficient, controlled, and resource-saving manner. Three patents were registered in connection with the dissertation.
