Dr.-Ing. Hatice Ceren Ates
Laureate 2025

The Bertha Benz Prize 2025 was to be bestowed on Dr.-Ing. Hatice Ceren Ates from the Technical University of Munich. The engineering scientist was receiving this award for her dissertation “Multiplexed biosensors toward smart therapeutic drug management of antibiotics.” She has developed a method for generating reliable real-time data on antibiotic levels in the human body. This enables therapies to be devised to suit the needs of individual patients. Ates’ aim is to make an active contribution to the healthcare of the future and personalized medicine. The effectiveness of these substances can only be maximized and the risk of resistance kept to a minimum when patients receive the optimal dose of antibiotics. For her doctoral thesis, she chose a multidisciplinary approach using methods from synthetic biology, microfluidics and artificial intelligence.
