Science Communication

How do we think, feel and act? Neuroscientists are researching the fundamentals of human existence. They are investigating questions such as how the brain influences our relationships, what drives our habits and our decisions, or how memories are processed. These insights influence education, political decision-making, and the development of new technologies – and should therefore be made accessible to the general public in readily understandable form.

Comics on the subject of neuroscience will be on display in Leipzig in 2026. The joint project involving the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences along with artists and illustrators is being supported by the Daimler and Benz Foundation with around 30,000 euros in the “Innovative Science Communication” funding line. The aim is to reinforce discourse between the public and world of science.

The “Science Streets” project sets out to reach people outside the so-called science bubble. As of June 2026, ten different neuro-comics will be launched at around 200 locations in the center of Leipzig – for example on advertising pillars, in public transport vehicles and on screens at the main train station.

Each comic includes a QR code that invites interested viewers to explore the scientific topic presented in more detail. On conclusion of the four-week “Science Streets” project, an event is planned with an exhibition, presentations, and discussions. This will enable interested people to immerse themselves even deeper into the fascinating world of neuroscience.
