Ladenburg Roundtable

Legal studies in Germany have not undergone any sustainable reforms in recent years. Although university qualification courses are offered, most students are continuing to attend courses from commercial providers. If confidence in the universities is lacking, action is called for: The aim of the Ladenburg Roundtable “Legal Didactics – Review and Outlook” provided development impulses for improving the study situation and curricula in the field of law.

Have some aspects of study not been adequately addressed to date by legal didactics, but have potential for improvement? These questions were addressed by academics and legal didactics experts at the Ladenburg Roundtable. They discussed how agile team management can be transferred to student working groups, and gave consideration to an extended planning framework for legal studies. The topics under discussion also included the “third mission” – the interrelation of universities and the environment – and the associated potential for teaching. The legal education experts also addressed the rational components and emotional aspects of legal education, thinking and activity, along with opportunities and limitations of artificial intelligence in the classical legal professions. Finally, digital examination and correction formats, the role of the Covid-19 pandemic in improving their quality, and the merits of face-to-face teaching were also discussed. All presentations will be published in a conference volume in the series “Schriften zur rechtswissenschaftlichen Didaktik” from Nomos publishers. The Ladenburg Roundtable “Legal Didactics – Review and Outlook” took place on April 1 and 2, 2022.
