Bertha Benz Prize

Award

To commemorate the exceptional achievements of the automotive pioneer Betha Benz, the Foundation awards the Bertha Benz Prize once a year. Young female engineers who have created added value for society with the findings of their dissertations can be nominated by their scientific institutions to receive this award. The prize, endowed with the sum of €15,000, is bestowed annually in recognition of pioneering spirit, courage, and visionary character.

Dr.-Ing. Maren Scheel

The 2023 Bertha Benz Prize was awarded to Dr.-Ing. Maren Scheel. “Experimental Nonlinear Modal Analysis – Method development with particular focus on nonlinear damping” was the title of her thesis. She developed an innovative measurement method that enables dangerous vibrations in composite structures – such as lightweight components – to be predicted. This new method is particularly suitable for use in aviation, the energy industry, and automotive engineering.
