Scholarship program

Promotion of postdoc researchers and junior professors

Each year, the Foundation awards twelve scholarships to selected postdoc researchers and junior professors in positions of leadership. The objective is to reinforce the autonomy and creativity of the up-and-coming generation of scientists and to pave the way for their careers during the postdoc phase. The funding amounts to €40,000 per scholarship for a period of two years.

Bertha Benz Prize

Bertha Benz Prize

To commemorate the exceptional achievements of the automotive pioneer Betha Benz, the Foundation awards the Bertha Benz Prize once a year. Young female engineers who have created added value for society with the findings of their dissertations can be nominated by their scientific institutions to receive this award. The prize, endowed with the sum of €15,000, is bestowed annually in recognition of pioneering spirit, courage, and visionary character.

Ladenburg Research Networks

Ladenburg Research Networks

The “Ladenburg Research Networks” funding line offers scientists the opportunity to work on topics within an interdisciplinary research network over an extended period. Under the leadership of a scientific coordinator who acts as spokesperson, a research topic is investigated by several working groups at various scientific institutions in Germany and abroad.

Ladenburg Horizons

Ladenburg Horizons

With the “Ladenburg Horizons” funding line, the Foundation focuses on research alliances between German and African institutions. This funding initiative is concerned with selected regions in Africa and takes account of their growing scientific and political significance. Research institutions in Germany that already maintain or would like to establish contacts with African partners are eligible to apply.

Ladenburg Roundtable

Ladenburg Roundtable

With the “Ladenburg Roundtable” funding line, the Foundation offers a free space for interdisciplinary reflection on research topics of scientific and social relevance. It provides a venue on its premises where scientists and experts from practical disciplines can discuss a freely chosen topic of research. The roundtables are open to all disciplines; a Ladenburg Roundtable can lead to the issuing of a publication or initiation of a more extensive research project.

Research Forum

Research Forum

The “Research Forum” funding line brings together projects from the Foundation characterized by scientific originality, social relevance, and a clearly manageable scope. This funding provides support for promising small-scale scientific projects from all disciplines and addresses scientists who wish to realize scientific projects of particular relevance to society.

Innovative Science Communication

Science Communication

The Foundation funds the planning and staging of an event on the topic of “Innovative Science Communication” with an overall sum of up to €30,000. Eligible to apply are non-profit institutions, companies, or organizations throughout Germany from the fields of culture, education, science, and industry that wish to organize and stage an event focusing on the communication of science.
