The Foundation intends to promote cooperation between German and African research institutions. The thematic focus can be freely defined; it should merely be in keeping with the Foundation’s purpose as formulated in its Statutes, namely the promotion of interaction between people, the environment, and technology. A sum of up to 300,000 euros in total is available for the research project over a maximum period of three years.

The funding is to be provided for scientific projects at institutions based in sub-Saharan, eastern, or western Africa, whereby a substantial portion of the research project must be carried out on location at African institutions. Eligible to apply are independent research group leaders from universities or not-for-profit non-university research institutes in Germany who already maintain contacts with partner institutions on the African continent or would like to establish new liaisons.
